TSU Utility & Infrastructure Improvements: Changing the way students, faculty, and staff experience Tarleton State University.

During heavy rains, large amounts of surface stormwater pooled along a portion of Tarleton State University’s Vanderbilt Street, prompting a $22 million improvement initiative. Serving as the project Prime, Pacheco Koch performed civil, landscape planting and irrigation, and duct bank design for the project. Alongside utility improvements and the campus electrical distribution system, improving the existing fiber-optic loop and the pedestrian mall hardscape and softscapes, care was taken to create a flexible concept that is simple and able to be expanded as necessary in the future. The proposed design included add-alternate elements and areas to ensure the project scope not only fits within the defined budget but also identifies potential future growth options. As the project Prime, our role included the intense review and markup of our consultants’ design plans and specifications. At all stages of design, our goal as the lead of the design team was to ensure the delivered documents provided a detailed, straightforward, and fully coordinated direction with no scope gaps. To date, with no significant change orders or design modifications, we believe our intense QA/QC process was impactful in ensuring the project budget was not compromised by un-foreseen or un-coordinated issues during the design process.
